The Philosophy Behind Radical Unschooling

1378582_10202343565414681_1891005361_nDayna, I’ve semi-followed you and your work for a long time, but I have to say this interview gave me a new-found deep respect and fondness for you, and your philosophy. You were absolutely tapped in and flowing mad truth, with such perfect clarity, grace and undeniable integrity and consistency. You even brought tears to my eyes a couple times. I can’t believe I was almost turned off of watching it at first due to the slightly awkward intro from the interviewers, but I am so glad I kept watching. I hope everyone else will too. Thank you”

I am interviewed regularly and I never tire of speaking from my heart about children’s rights and natural learning. I am always happy to spread the word about Radical Unschooling Philosophy and Peaceful, Freedom-Based Parenting. In this video, I was in an Google Hangout per invitiation from Secular Homeschooling.com. I was their featured guest/interview to kick off what they were calling, “Unschooling Week!” The experience was fun and the interview was upbeat and fun! I think you will gain some great insight from this video and understand Radical Unschooling at a deeper level.

This was probably the best Dayna Martin talk I have seen! I really liked the emphasis on looking at what your children want to show you with true interest and attention and listening to them “teach” you about it, that this is such an important element of their learning process. I thought this interview was great!!” Amelie Danser

It was the best interview and explanation of unschooling that I have heard Dayna give.  I’ve been on this journey for about a year and found this interview to be so inspiring and confirming that we are on the right track.  We are still learning and growing in our knowledge and freedom of unschooling, but our lives are already a hundred fold richer and happier than we have ever been.  Life is learning.  You can not separate the two.  To think that you have to learn before you can live life is just a great big LIE!  Live life and the learning will take care of itself. ” Lisa Cherry

  2. I just wanted to share this quote by Osho because it’s so right on!
“Children have immense intelligence, but through the ages they have not been allowed.
We have to create a new kind of education in which nothing is imposed on the children,
but where they are helped to strengthen their natural intelligence. They are not to be
stuffed with information which is in fact almost useless. 98% of the information that we
go on throwing into children’s minds is just stupid, foolish. But because of that load, that
baggage, the child will never be free of the burden.”

  3. Radical Unschooling is a progressive parenting philosophy, which includes children learning at home. It is different from homeschooling in that children are not forced to follow curriculum lessons and tests. Radical Unschooling philosophy focuses on trust of a child’s innate ability to learn without coercion and invites children to explore their passions. The parent’s role
